Adenosine Triphosphate (ATP) is the primary source of cellular energy, and we humans (along with animals) store the energy obtained from the breakdown of food as ATP, which means that what we feed ourselves is what fuels our bodies and brains. ATP is what allows our engine to run, and be maintained. Energetically, in my non-scientific view, we are fuelled by both the food we eat, and the thoughts we allow ourselves to think.
One of my beautiful mentors and teachers, Ally Bogard, talks about how it takes 25% more ATP to change something (versus letting something be maintained/continue as it currently is). What that means in the context of changing or transforming our lives for the better, is that we literally require more energy (more fuel) if we want to change something - whether it is to exercise more, to change our diet, to change our relationships…and so on and so forth.
We therefore need to create space for the change to occur, by letting go of what does not serve us…otherwise our energy (ATP) is spent and depleted through the effort it takes to maintain everything we have going on in our brains and bodies.
We need to create space so that we have the energy to transform…
and upgrade to something better.
Through the practices of yoga, meditation, and breathwork, we can transform our states of being to states that are more present, joyful, energised, and peaceful…so that we can bring more of ourselves to our lives. These practices are also practices that allow for us to create more space in our bodies, minds and spirits.
